One by one, the group filled down into the living room. Riley had woken up first, finding a route to the roof. She lay up there, watching the sun rise. Quinn woke next, and after doing a few morning stretches, he goes downstairs to start breakfast and some coffee he found in the cupboards. Soon the smell of the coffee fills the house, bringing down first John, then Sam, and finally Lucy.
Once the food and coffee is done, Quinn goes to the living room to get the group, "Breakfast is up!"
Sam darts into the kitchen, making up a plate of a bagel and some corned beef hash. John and Lucy each get their own plates and sit side by side. Quinn makes a plate for himself and Riley, setting them down. He then taps Lucy on her shoulder.
"Hey, is there any way to get to the roof?"
"Yeah. Go to the third floor. At the top of the stairs, go to the window straight ahead. It leads to a balcony. Outside attached to the wall should be a ladder that leads to the roof."
"Thanks!" Quinn turns to leave, but Lucy grabs his hand.
"Wait. Why do you need to get to the roof?"
Quinn turns back, "To get Riley. Every morning since she was eight, if she was troubled, she would go to the highest place near where she was. After the outbreak, it's rare for her to still be there when I wake up. Since she wasn't with me this morning, I know she went to the roof."
"Oh... Ok." Lucy let go and nods, getting back to her food. During their exchange, John listened in. He had been curious as to where Riley had gone.
Quinn followed Lucy's instructions, arriving at the roof. He sees Riley and sits by her. "Food time Monkey."
She nods and gets up, following him down and to her seat. Soon, everyone has eaten and dressed for the day. They meet in the living room.
John stands and addresses the group, "Ok. I think we all agree we should stay here and make this a kind of home base. So that means we need to fortify our defenses and clean up this house a bit. So if its ok with everyone, I think that the guys should go and fix up the fence outside, and you two girls go through each room and find anything valuable or helpful, and along the way clean up a bit?"
Everyone nods, with the addition of Lucy and Riley looking a little pissed. Sam clears his throat, "I was in the military, so I can help build our defenses. Also i can help fix anything needed around the house."
"That will be very needed! Thank you." And with those words, the group split up, each going to their appointed "jobs" and began their next day.
"What!... You know I don't want to be stuck here....and stuck here with her is even worse" Lucy whines while nodding towards Riley. John roles his eyes "please just do it Lucy you know this house better than any of us, maybe you know of a secret stash of food or some thing"
ReplyDeleteRiley signals something to Quinn. He replies, "I know you dont want this, but I want you safe and this house is the safest place right now!" She sighs and nods, then goes over to Lucy. "Come on. We should let the guys go. The sooner they leave, the sooner their finished, the sooner their back. We should start on the top floor and work our way down." With that she walks off to the third floor.

Quinn laughs along with john "yeah... come on Sam! We're gonna need your defensive skills to build this fence correctly."
ReplyDeleteUpstairs, riley was already in a room, but what she saw made her freeze: the room looked like a girls room, with girl stuff, but all over the floor was blood. There was a few bits of glass by a picture frame. Riley went over and picked it up, then nearly dropped it. The picture was of Lucy and her family. She had a brother, riley thought, but where is he? Riley just stood there staring at the picture.
Lucy made her where up stairs, as she was walking down the hall to the next flight of stairs to the 3rd floor she came upon her old room and she started to shake and turned pale as a ghost, but then she heard some one moving around inside of her old room and she very slowly made her way in side and that's when she spotted Riley holding the pic of Lucy's family "what are you doing in here!" She Lucy said while holding back tears
ReplyDeleteRiley jumps, the picture frame landing on the bed. "I-i... I just walked in here cause itwas the first door I saw on the third floor... if I had known it was yours I wouldn't have home in. Im sorry for intruding."I with that, riley walked past Lucy to the next room, beginning to clean it up while looking for anything useful.
ReplyDeleteLucy walks in to her room slowly and then shudders and quickly goes to check another room for supplies.
ReplyDelete"Wow lucky for us Lucy's dad put in all this strong fence" John says while testing another fence post
Quinn nods, nailing another sheet of wood to the fence so there isn't a hole or slot. "Yeah! And we're lucky he had all this plywood! Its like they were planning for this. I mean, they had solar panels!"
ReplyDeleteRiley finishes looking through all the rooms on her side of the floor. There's a small pile of stuff by the stairs. "You done Luce?"Riley she calls out.
Lucy comes out with an arm full of blankets, food, and weapons "my parents were kinda ready for this type of thing" she smiles
ReplyDelete"I know right? Her parents must have know some thing" John replys while halling over another piece of plywood
"You know I agree they were definitely prepared for something!" Sam says. "So what's UR story John? How did you end up here?" Sam asks with a sincere voice.
ReplyDeleteQuinn nods, "I agree with Sam. What happened with you?" Quinn nails more wood as he waits.
ReplyDeleteRiley nods and starts carrying the pile down the stairs. "So why did they stock up this stuff?"
"My story really isn't that big. I grew up an orphan, played some sports through highschool when this sickness or what ever it is broke out I took cover for a couple of days then I found Lucy and yeah that's pretty much it* he tells them as he checks a piece of fence
ReplyDeleteLucy follows Riley "well....my dad was a scientist and my mum was a doctor so they kinda saw it comeing, so they started planing and stuff....but then...some how...they got I..infect...sick they got sick....and yeah..."
Quinn nodded and dusted off his hands. "I guess its my turn. Me and riley had a sister, willow. When the infection happened, we lost our parents. Us three did pretty good, but when I left to "take care of" our parents, who I had seen were then infected, willow was bitten. Riley had to... she had to kill her out of mercy. She hasn't been the same since. Riley and willow thought I had left to get supplies."Quinn with that he turned away and began on the next section of fence.
ReplyDeleteRiley stayed silent. She knew what it was like to lose someone to the virus. She knew Lucy didn't want a sorry.
*why don't your tell Riley the truth?" John asks Quinn
ReplyDelete"Well we should get all of this stuff put away" Lucy says as she wipes a tear from her eye
"Cause im afraid she'll hate me... I went off to kill our parents and left them alone..."Quinn replies.
ReplyDeleteNodding, riley starts to carry stuff downstairs.
"Sooo telling her a lie is better?" John questions
ReplyDelete"I'll start cooking dinner" Lucy starts the wood burning over and starts to make pizza from scratch
"Its not a lie. I just didn't tell her." Quinn walks off to get more wood.
ReplyDeleteRiley sorts all the treasures, but soon finds something g interesting. "Hey Lucy! What's this?"Quinn she holds up a leather bound book with hand written, science ridiculous notes in them.
Lucy takes it from her and pages through it "it's my dads note book" she starts reading it
ReplyDeleteRiley's eyes widen. "Wow! Does it say anything about the virus?!"
ReplyDeleteQuinn comes back and nails the final piece on the fence. "There. Hopefully that will hold till we get electricity. "
"Sadly nothing more than I already know...but maybe we will find more info when we look around more. I think we should start supper the boys will be hungry" Lucy puts the book down

Riley nods and goes to the kitchen, beginning to cook spaghetti.
ReplyDeleteQuinn lets Sam know they are going in to shower and eat. Sam nods and tells him he will finish up with the generator then come in.
Lucy helps Riley and washes some dishes
ReplyDeleteJohn runs for the shower to try and get some hot water
Quinn walks in and goes to the kitchen. "Something smells good!"
ReplyDeleteRiley pushes him out. "Get out! Your dirty! Go shower!!!"
Lucy covers her mouth with her hand and lets out a little snicker"yes..and make sure John takes one too"
ReplyDeleteJohn jumps in the shower;then, jumps back out "dam that water is cold!"
pouts playfully and walks out, pushing john aside and gets in. He quickly washes and jumps out, running to the kitchen just as the food finishes.
ReplyDeleteRiley covers her eyes, "quinn!!! Go put some clothes on!!!"
John jumps in after Quinn finishes and showers then goes to his room to find some thing cleaner to wear.
ReplyDelete"Oh my goodness!" Lucy turns red and covers her eyes when Quinn comes in
Quinn looks down at himself, "what! Im covered!!! I have a towel on!!!"
ReplyDeleteRiley rolls her eyes and turns back around.
Quinn and the rest of the gang all help set the table and then everyone eats. After all their stomachs are fed, Quinn and John go and search for Sam. They comeback emptyhanded. "It's getting late... I think we should resume the search in the morning." Quinn states with a yawn.
